Chinese car giant Chery confirmed in June that it will launch the Lepas sub-brand in Australia, with its first BEV model, the L6, heading towards our market.

The model was approved for sale in the ROVER register last month, and the brand has now revealed initial local specs of the mid-size SUV model, which sits on the LEX platform, developed specifically for Lepas.

“The L6 represents an exciting new chapter for our business and marks the arrival of Lepas in Australia,” Lucas Harris, the Chief Operating Officer of Lepas Australia, said in a statement,

“The L6 is an important first step for the brand, offering a compelling combination of style, technology, comfort and EV performance in one of Australia’s most competitive vehicle segments.”

The L6 will be powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing up to 160 kW of power and  275 Nm of torque. It will also arrive with a 67.1 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack in the full BEV version, which delivers a range of around 440 km on the WLTP cycle.

Fast charging times of 30-80% sit at around 22 minutes, while AC charging specs are yet to be confirmed. Energy consumption is estimated at 17.5 kWh/100km.

The L6 includes premium materials for comfort while offering the space family car buyers want. Other key features include multiple screens, a panoramic glass roof and a spacious cabin designed to improve the overall driver and passenger experience.

The car will be 4.57 metres, putting it close to the size of the popular Geely EX5 and slightly larger than the MGS5 EV.

The 1.86-tonne SUV has a tow rating of 750 kg with a braked trailer. It also has a running clearance of 210 mm, higher than a few other family SUVs on the market.

It’s expected to be officially revealed locally at the Everything Electric show later this month with pricing and further specs will be announced in the EV’s launch next month in October.

Lepas L6 key interior and convenience features include:

    • 8.88-inch LCD digital driver display
    • 13.2-inch LCD infotainment touchscreen
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
    • “Hello LEPAS” intelligent voice command
    • Eight-speaker Sony premium sound system
    • 50W wireless smartphone charging
    • Heated and ventilated front seats
    • Synthetic leather upholstery
    • Panoramic sunroof with slide and tilt function and powered sunshade
    • Colour selectable ambient lighting
    • Powered tailgate
    • Puddle lights

Key safety and driver-assistance technologies include:

    • Seven airbags
    • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
    • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
    • Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)
    • 360-degree Around View Monitor
    • Automatic Parking Assist (APA)
    • Remote Parking Assist (RPA)
