MACK Trucks Australia has given its heavy-duty flagships a retro-inspired nip and tuck, introducing a squared-off front-end and heritage-themed headlight package for Super-Liner and Trident models.
Developed locally by Mack’s Australian engineering team and built at the brand’s Wacol manufacturing facility in Queensland, the updated design pays homage to the iconic styling of classic Bulldog-brand models.
The retro styling draws visual cues from the original RW700 Super-Liner, R-Series and Valueliner models that helped establish the brand’s reputation within Australia’s transport industry over the past half-century.
Both the highway-focused Super-Liner flagship and vocational heavy-duty Trident prime mover receive quad seven-inch LED headlights that replace the regular curved lighting, housed within a squared-off front fascia.
The updated Super-Liner is equipped with Mack’s 17.0-litre MP11 powerplant, with power starting at 600hp and climbing to 780hp with a class-leading 3800Nm of torque in the top-spec rating.
Meanwhile, the axle-forward construction-focused Trident is powered by Mack’s 13.0-litre MP8 engine, producing 535hp and 2600Nm of torque, backed by a choice of 12, 13 or 14-speed m-Drive automated manual transmissions (AMT), with optional ultra-low crawler gears.
The retro styling arrives as the brand continues to build on a heritage that dates back to 1963, when the first Mack truck was adapted for Australian conditions and built locally in Brisbane.
“This new look for Trident and Super-Liner really nails what Mack Trucks in Australia represents,” said Mack Trucks Australia vice-president Tony O’Connell.
“We’re a brand that has helped build this country into what it is today, from construction and infrastructure projects in our cities to the legendary road trains that are the lifeblood of our outback communities.
“If there’s a thankless task involved there’s a good chance there’s a Mack involved as well.
“These trucks are a great example of what our local engineering team and our factory can do,” Mr O’Connell continued.
“We’ve listened to what our customers want and now we’ve delivered and I’m very pleased to see these unique trucks come to life.”
