The next Maserati EV might originate from China. The carmaker is reportedly in talks with JAC Motors and Huawei to develop and manufacture two new electric vehicles.

According to media reports, JAC Motors will handle engineering and manufacturing, while Huawei will supply its HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility platform, Qiankun ADS driver assistance software and electric drive components.

Maserati Grecale Folgore-1

The new electric vehicles planned include an SUV and a grand tourer, which will be positioned alongside the Grecale Folgore and GranTurismo Folgore models, respectively. The cars will be manufactured at the Zunjie Super Factory in Hefei, China, and shipped to Italy as Semi Knocked Down (SKD) kits for assembly. In China, JAC Motors would sell them under the Maextro brand.

Earlier, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa had hinted at a potential collaboration. “Maserati needs industry partners but will not sell the brand,” he said.
