A Rivian electric ute has once again been spotted in Victoria, giving a glimpse into the popular American-built EV that is rarely seen in Australia.
Two photos of the white ute were taken and shared by an avid reader of The Driven, showing the parked vehicle in a supermarket carpark in Melbourne.
The spotted vehicle was left-hand-drive and was charging at a public charger, taking up almost the entire width of the bay.
From the front, the Rivian R1T has its light bar and headlights on at the time, which clearly sets it apart from any other utes currently for sale in Australia.
There was also a photo of the rear with its rear tail light bar seen running along the tailgate with Rivian branding and a sticker indicating the left-hand drive configuration.
This is quite a rare sight, as previous Rivian vehicles in Australia were for mining applications, bought by a partnership between Mining Electric Vehicle Company (MEVCO) and Rivian Automotive. MEVCO entered voluntary liquidation in September 2025.
In its local market of the US, the Rivian R1T has a starting price of $US79,900 for the Dual Motor AWD with the standard battery apck.
The R1T went on sale in the US nearly 6 years ago in November 2020. At that time, it was announced with a “Launch Edition” as well as the Adventure Package and Explore Package, which were delivered from 2022 onwards.
Since then, Rivian has released multiple iterations of the R1T, with the latest version offered in dual-motor, tri-motor, and quad-motor configurations.
On top of that for the 2025 version, Rivian has also shifted its battery chemistry to Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), helping it reduce costs as the brand plans to roll out multiple more affordable models in the coming years.
The current R1T base pack used a 92.5 kWh battery pack, down from earlier variants using 106 kWh packs. The standard pack can deliver up to 415 km of EPA range in the US.
There is also a Max pack which delivers up to 660 km of range on the dual-motor truck, thanks fo its 149 kWh battery pack.
As of the writing of this article, there is no confirmation that Rivian will be delivering the truck to Australia.
While we wait for updates from the company on right-hand-drive Rivians, it’s still good to see a ground-up electric ute on Australian roads. For now though, the recently revealed MG U9 EV might be our best bet at a fully electric ute with good range and towing capacity.
